Over my years of traveling as a nurse the one thing that I truly enjoy is coming home. I always have a favorite time of year which is usually the fall. This year I have decided to take the summer off of my nursing job and lay in the hammocks, drink wine and write. There are so many ideas running through my mind it's time to put the on the computer. I plan to enjoy the summer, sign and sell some books and rest. Should I get bored there will always be a place I can go and help others. I hope you smile and make every moment in your life special. Laugh out loud, dance in the rain, stay up all night and watch the sun rise. Kiss your children, hold them tight and let them know how much they are loved. Look into the starry night and praise God for his blessings.
Bellingham Washington was host to the annual Chanticleer Conference and book awards, this past April. Honored to be asked to speak during three sessions this year along with other outstanding authors. Texas was greatly represented with Grand Prize for categories, John Yarrow for Cygnus and Best overall book to Michelle Rene for Hour Glass! It's difficult to believe time truly does fly by... My last post was in November and now it is May!! There has been many good and wonderful things that have happened and I will attempt to add them here. I will endeavor to keep up with more recent happenings in the future. I was honored to become a winner in this contest. A book was published with all fifty winners names and our information for the contest. I have been notified by the Author Show that I am a finalist in this contest. It is very exciting to be considered. The final round runs through December 3rd. If you have a moment I would appreciate if you could stop by and vote. There are many authors listed and you can vote for three.
.https://www.questionpro.com/a/TakeSurvey?tt=DNvzppRRqlc%3D Some people say you can't go home, but it's just not true in Amarillo. The opportunity for me to work for a few weeks in a local hospital happen to coincide with a multi year high school reunion October 6-7th. It was so nice to see all the people that made such an impact on our lives in high school. Some of us have remained close since grade school. We have spread across the U.S. and chosen varied professions, but the smiles across our faces never changed. We danced, laughed, stood together for multiple pictures to carry us until we find a time to meet again. Our hair and waist lines may of changed but not the memories. Group pictures showed that we still remember school spirit no matter the year you graduated. It seemed a good time to have a book signing for Archidamus. Barnes and Noble accommodated me so that I could present my newest release to my hometown. There were people waiting when I arrived and they continued to stop, ask questions and buy Archidamus. Amarillo has much to offer from beautiful sunrises to sunsets. The people are friendly and the town is growing. If you happen to be driving down I-40 and have some extra time, stop, eat, shop and enjoy the hospitality of my hometown.
ARCHIDAMUS by Janet K. Shawgo – Mystery & Suspense, Crime Thriller, Paranormal
Title: Archidamus Author(s): Janet K. Shawgo Genre(s): Crime Thriller, Mystery, Supernatural, Thriller/Suspense Publisher: North Loop Books (2017) Please help promote the author by liking the review at: AmazonGoodreadsAuthor's WebsiteOne of the NSA’s most talented agents, Zaveen “Zack” Keens, reads the agency’s unofficial notes about a soldier turned ruthless mercenary, murderer, and now her deadly adversary – Archidamus, the man she’d injured and almost stopped. Zack must learn everything she can and hone all her abilities in order to save her kidnapped fiancé and defeat the formidable murderer. In another city, a man reflects on his first violent encounter with Agent Zack and recognizes that underestimating her is a grave mistake. As his finger follows the jagged cut on his face, he vows to kill her. Archidamus never forgets. This suspenseful thriller introduces characters with paranormal skills that complement their survival and spy training. Knowing the agents’ capabilities, the reader begins with a confident feeling, like when you bet on a sure thing at the race track, but then you find out that your horse had an unreported injury and suddenly, what you thought was a sure bet, leaves you with growing concerns. Likewise, the reader learns that these skills come with side effects and that this killer is always several steps ahead of the NSA. And Archidamus has secrets of his own. Zack can read minds even from a long distance, which took some getting used to for her new partner Lane Brigham, who reveals that he has some surprising mental abilities of his own. Just as these two agents get comfortable with their skills, Zach’s fiance’, Eric, is kidnapped by none other than Archidamus. They follow the trail through several states in the U.S. and across the Atlantic to Ireland and Austria. A ransom message arrives but is it already too late? Let the reader beware, Shawgo’s writing builds a creeping suspense that will keep one engaged in the chase and through the murderer’s evasive steps. The knowledge of weaponry, some of it unique for a thriller, along with skillfully plotted strategy serve this thriller well. Author Janet Shawgo has written four award-winning historical and romantic novels. Archidamus is her debut thriller. As with her other books, she’s created memorable characters in dynamic situations. Before putting pen to paper as an author, Shawgo served as a healthcare worker for thirty-two years, twenty of those as a travel nurse. Her past informs her writing in the way her characters emote concern and empathy throughout the story. Archidamus is a paranormal, suspenseful thriller that also tells a story of the strength of loving bonds with friends and family. Love is the glue that holds a strong defense in place. Is it enough, though, when pitted against the face of evil in a twisted man who never forgives and never forgets? Saturday August 5th in Orlando Florida at Disney Springs FAPA held their author conference and awards banquet. Archidamus was awarded a Silver Medal in Mystery category! I am honored to have won this honor and appreciate the hard work the members of the association for a lovely and exciting evening. You just finished an Awesome book! You loved every page, character, and the entire story line. You hope there is a second or third book to follow. The best thing you can do is leave a review and let the author know. Reviews help us know that our readers either love, like or if the book was not their cup of tea. Reviews can be short, long or just a star, but the main thing is to go and do it. If you have enjoyed any of my books please take a moment and leave a review. Take that extra step and leave your favorite author a review.
AmericanBookFest.com THRILLER & ADVENTURE http://www.americanbookfest.com/generalfiction/thrilleradventure.html
Archidamus is featured on American Book Fest. Great books to read so stop by and check it out! As authors we try to get our names and work out to the public. One way to do that is through all types of contests. I would love for you to go and read my essay and vote. Page to access/read the essays: http://wnbnetworkwest.com/WnbAuthorsShow50Writers2017-VotingPage.html Direct voting page: http://50greatwriters-2018-phase1.questionpro.com/ I have added a small section from my essay. I have often thought about the men and women who write. What inspires them? It could be personal causes, a love of history, life experiences, or just their imagination. It seems there are many subjects to choose and expand upon. Writing poems and telling stories was a childhood enjoyment for me. My inspiration to put words to paper began in Amarillo, Texas. As a high school senior the creative writing class was an extra credit. The teacher was known to all who had sat through English with her. She was a respected woman who inspired all of us to be the best we could be and follow our dreams. The class was filled with students who invoked laughter, and tears, challenging one another through the written word. The time I spent in this class created a love for writing. Thanks for your time and vote.
Nurses have change tremendously over the years. We have gone from stiff white uniforms to colored scrubs, and left our white nurses caps in a memory box. What hasnt changed is the bond between nurses knowing we can count on one another in all times. As a travel nurse I go from city to city, state to state working in my designated area. I work in Labor and delivery taking care of high risk mothers. I would like to say my job is always joyous but that is not always the case. I take one day at a time and give all that I have to care for my patients. Over the years I have become accustomed to packing up the car and putting the pup in the front seat and off we go. It doesnt meant I dont have a home. You know that when you take an assignment there will always be a place to go back to and chill for those precious days you have off between jobs. When you travel you become a tourist and you take advantage of the places you go. Museums, art walks, summer events, winter solstices, you become a parat of the community while you are there. I have traveled to Europe, Bahamas, Jamaica, with nurses I met on assignment. You grow as a person when you meet new people. If you become a travel nurse you will find Adventure and make life long friends. While traveling across the United States I found a love of history. One day I thought it would be a good idea to try and write a book about a travel nurse. I began to do research and found that women have traveled to heal for centuries. I was fortunate to be on assignment where I could go to Gettysburg and walk the fields and areas I included in my first book Look for me. I took advantage of all I could in the cities I traveled. While at home in Galveston I took the tour at the Air Museum. I was able to be taken through a B-17 Bomber and given history that made it possible for correct information in my second book Wait for me. I began with healers from the Civil War and it led to two more books. Wondering if anyone liked my books I began to enter them into contest. After publishing five books I have been honored with over thirty awards. I have found a love of writing. Traveling doesnt always make it easy for me to find time to write but I try to balance when I can. What is ahead for me as a traveler and author? At this time I have six more books in the works. I hope to have several of them published for my readers. I also want to possibly retire. It has been a great journey for me. There is much left to experience and I hope to do it with open arms and mind. Dont let life pass you by! Reach out, grab it and hang on for the ride of your life. Thank you to those who came by and bought Archidamus. To Suzanne Roberts and her wonderful staff your kindness is appreciated. Please join me on Saturday July 8th from 2-4 pm. I will be signing Archidamus my Paranormal Thriller. I will have goodies and something special for those who purchase a copy.
